Class Development

In keeping with my personal goal of pushing needlework as far as I can, this class combines some of my newer experiments in needlework. I have recently begun airbrushing canvases to obtain colors not available commercially. I am also working with canvas as a base for mixed media art, adding found objects and non-fabric attachments to alter the appearance of the finished piece.

In this class the students will get a chance to work with custom painted [airbrushed] canvases in a multi-layered mixed media project. Prior to class each student will choose from a list of colors and I will paint the canvases in light, medium, and dark shades of that color. Because each canvas is hand painted, there will be variations from canvas to canvas, contributing to the uniqueness of the project.

As per the student letter, each student will choose her thread colors from three choices offered for each canvas color., making a total of nine color schemes to choose from (3 canvases x 3 color selections).

Comments

Pre-stitching required — 20-25 hours to complete the satin stitch dividing bands. For anyone not able to finish the prestitching a basting chart is included.
