Class Development

This 1-day class was inspired by the riotous burst of flowering bushes so plentiful in Oregon. I tried to choose stitches and threads that were consistent with the connotations the season holds for me, and for spring that means the softness of a flower’s petal and great patches of color. The other color schemes reflect the great areas of green space found in Oregon and the unexpected spring frosts and snow.

Class Goals

to become comfortable working with very fine metallic threads including starting and
    stopping these unusual threads securely
to learn tips and techniques for working with overdyed threads including shading
    methods
exploring the threads and deciding on color and thread placement
to give students who are usually linen workers some exposure to a canvas-type ground
fabric and some traditional canvas stitches
to learn correct execution of a variety of stitches, including couching and laying threads
