Class Development This class was originally developed in response to the numerous questions my students ask about the stitch program I use when I design. Noting the many questions on the various chat lists about stitch programs I believe the time is right for revisiting this class. The explosion of available programs has made choosing difficult and frustrating for most stitchers. The class will give the students an opportunity to hear the pros and cons of many of the better known stitch programs on the market. When they get home they will be able to play with demos of many of the programs.
A goal of the major stitching guilds is to provide educational opportunities for its members. This includes encouraging the creative spirit found in every stitcher. As longtime members become more advanced stitchers designing is a logical step in their education. Computer designing is a great step toward promoting creativity because it is faster than pencil and paper and, therefore, less discouraging. Nothing is more encouraging than to be able to see the design idea grow quickly on the screen. By projecting the demo of each program onto a screen the students will be able to see exactly how each program works and will be able to request the demonstration of specific features. |
Class Goals

CommentsThis class was taught at ANG 1999 Seminar when personal computers were becoming more popular but were still not a common household item. Now the household without a computer is rare, the programs have become more sophisticated, and so have stitchers. As I answer numerous questions on the ANG list and privately about computer stitch programs, I decided there is a pressing need for more information about the various programs out there and how to choose the right one for each person.
This is also a class popular with guild program chairmen as more and more guilds become interested in creating their own guild samplers and designs. The full-color PowerPoint presentation shows the various features of each program and makes the class come alive for the student, offering them a firsthand look at how the programs actually work. The interactive nature of the class gives the students the opportunity to see demos of specific features of each program. |
